Details: Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to chocolate-covered life on the Palace stage. This show will be fun and full of joy, bringing a lightness that is very much in need today. Tickets are on sale now at the Palace box office. Cost is $20 general, $25 and $30 reserved. All tickets will be $5 more the day of performance.

Details: This project is an artist-led sculpture project engaging the community, celebrating the everyday and the things a part of everyday through art at the Volcano Art Center and Wailoa Art Center. The project allows participants to contemplate the everyday, use upcycling to create awareness about waste or use their medium to communicate an everyday message. The piece will travel throughout Hawaii and the mainland and continue to grow as it travels. The community and participants are invited to attend this unique celebration event to showcase the project before it travels. There also are pre-party workshops: 11 a.m. Wednesday at at Wailoa Art Center and 11 a.m. Oct. 20 at VAC.

Details: The goal of this free public event is to celebrate ohia and promote awareness about this important tree. Bring your keiki and make fun ohia crowns. Hear about the traditional Hawaiian practice of using 20-plus-foot ohia poles to fish. Take a 3-D tour through ohia forests. These activities and more will promote ways to help prevent the spread of rapid ohia death. There also will be games, prizes, a photo booth, live music, hula, food vendors and more.

Details: The American Rhododendron Society – Hawaii Chapter will be doing its annual outreach event, giving away free trusses (cuttings) and small plants with information about propagation and care.
